mikez, i wanted to try something.

can you paste your current xorg.conf here? i'm sure it's carefully crafted.
is there any warning about simply copying the whole thing and pasting it into my own?

Go here:
http://www.morethan.org/mini-note

The directions are the *.html file -
The 1280x768 for sled has 'sled' in its name, you will have to gunzip it first, and rename it.
The 1280x768 for *buntu is xorg.mini.gz, you will have to gunzip it first; it is bit-for-bit what I have run since last June; rename it to xorg.conf.
The 1024x600 version is not gzip'd just rename it.

Any changes, just post them on your hp-umpc.com web-site. ;) (I guess you don't read your mail)

Just thought I'd chip in here:

I've been meaning to post for a while that I've taken the mouse stuff out of Mikez's xorg.conf as it seemed to inhibit 8.10's automatic setup (which uses the new Hal XML config system). It was as easy as removing the two mouse devices and any reference to them

So, now I have circular scrolling configured with the touchpad config utility. If I use the _original_ mikez xorg.copnf I don't get the configuration options working.

Anyone know any reason to keep them in? Mikez?

Also, can anyone play two video streams at the same time? I can't without them distorting/merging

Who

yeah... that's the kind of video stuff i see.
i'm using the drivers form here: http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action (Beta Unified 2D driver Ver85a-43862(04Nov08) (593.3K))

and why do people keep calling these 3d drivers when their clearly labeled 2d?

I see there is a message waiting for me at the other site, I guess that
is your response. Just getting up myself, let me see if you new web
site lasted the first 24 hours on its own.

Since I do not yet know if I will keep our chat servers running past
February I suppose I should use an address at my personal site (dif host).

mininote (at) . . . .

Just put in the missing two lines:
# Copyright (c) M. S. Zick, 2008, all rights reserved.
# Licensed under the terms of the MIT OSS license.

No contact e-mail in the config file please, I get enough spam already.
Add your own claims for credit following, credit Who if you adopt the mouse changes.

I have never updated my own system from 8.04 - which "works for me" -
I am very conservative about ever "updating" (breaking) a working system. ;)

Translation:
I haven't done any testing of anything since last June -
If you have to pull input device sections - pull them.

I guess that will lead to a dizzing array of xorg config files posted - - -
Coordinate with Luvit - I gave him a few 10s of Gbytes on hp-umpc.com for posting files, web pages, etc.

If you need the source (LyX I.E: Latex) to the *.html to update it - PM me.

The only significant difference between the original (*.deb file-layout) and the sled (*.rpm file-layout)
is the font paths. Both sets of paths may co-exist in the config file and only mess up the log file.

Did not work last June - to run both, independent, rendering channels at the same time requires two (2)
independent AGP DMA systems in the driver - the June driver did not have it.
Just ignore the "DuoView" messages in the log file - only the message was working. ;)
Same with Xrandr - messages only. ;)

In VIA's recent public announcement of increased cooperation with the openChrome project - the above
two items where mentioned as at the top of their "fix it" list. For the VX800 chipset, we have the CN896.
